InvestorWeb
Research is an incisive research
service that provides value
added
information and financial and investment
tools in a timely and accessible manner
to the investment community.
Our research offering includes Equities
and
Managed Funds research,
general
market and economic summaries, specialised
reports, model portfolios
and
portfolio management.
Our differentiating feature as a Managed Funds Research House is the quality of our people.
We have a highly experienced and well resourced team of professionals who spend a significant
amount of time with fund managers on a daily basis. As a result of this, the ratings process
adopted by the Managed Funds team is largely qualitatively based.
Nonetheless, we do undertake very thorough quantitative analysis based on portfolio positions
and past performance. The methodology adopted ensures that performance is considered in the
context of confirming our understanding of the manager and their performance, rather than on
an absolute basis (i.e. bigger is better). For example, we check for issues such as style drift,
or unintended portfolio biases, which may mean products and managers may perform in unexpected ways.
To IWL, predictability of performance is key. This helps us build high quality portfolios that will
perform well in all markets.
A ratings template is used to ensure that each relevant factor is given due weight. All ratings are
ratified through an Investment Committee, consisting of all members of the team. This forum is designed
to encourage open and vigorous debate on managers, styles, processes, markets and ultimately, ratings.
